About the Parish |

Uzhuva is a small village in
Vayalar Panchayat in Alappuzha district of Kerala.
St Anna’s Church at Uzhuva, established in 1876,
comes under Muttam Cherthala St Mary’s forane
church. This has been the first church in the name
of Sr Annamma of Ernakulam-Angamaly arch diocese.

Church History |
|
Uzhuva village is situated in the
middle of Vayalar in Cherthala Taluk in Alappuzha
district. In answer to the prolonged demands of the
Catholics of Uzhuva, four kilometers away from
Muttam parish, the parish committee meeting held at
Muttam church in 1852 decided to establish a church

Every year the parish conducts annual retreat
intended to encourage the spiritual rejuvenation
of the parishioners. A Christmas Message Rally
is also arranged. Several awareness programmes
are regularly organized. Occasionally, the
parish organizes a faith declaration rally as
well. |
|
|
The feast of St Annamma is celebrated as the
main festival of the parish. In addition to that
the parish celebrates the feast of the Sacred
Heart of Jesus, the Dukrana festival of St
Thomas, the death anniversary of St Joseph, the
feast of the Holy Mother of Immaculate
Conception, the feast of the rosary, and the
feasts of St Sebastian and St George. |

Kumari Jossymol George
One notable achievement of the parishioners is
the high ranks that Kumari Jossymol George of
the parish regularly gets in the Logos Quiz
conducted at the arch diocese level. |

Sri Thannikkatt Ouseph
The sacristan Sri Thannikkatt Ouseph has been in
office for long fifty years. |
