Tribunal Activities
The great majority of the cases dealt with by the Ordinary Tribunal are marriage nullity cases. From September 1994 till December 31, 2006 the Syro Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Ordinary Tribunal dealt with 635 marriage nullity appeal cases in the second instance. 40 cases were introduced in the third and subsequent instances. Four cases in the second instance and one case in the third instance remain pending on December 31, 2006.

Looking to the grounds of nullity in the marriage cases handled by the Major Archiepiscopal Ordinary Tribunal, those prescribed in canon 818 stand at the top. 276 decrees and 66 sentences of nullity were issued on this ground. The ground 'inability to assume' (can. 818 n.3) occupies the first place regarding the cause for the nullity of marriage.
