The parishners of Poovathussery and neighbouring
area were once a part of Moozhikulam Forane Church
(1406 years old) in Ernakulam district. Moozhikulam
is 3 kms from Poovathussery on the other side of
Chalakudy river. The church was under Verapoly

Feast of Immaculate Conception of Our lady (Dharsana
Thirunal) - the most celebrated festival of
Poovathussery Parish conducted on the 3rd week
of January. |

Feast of St. Sebastian celebrated along with
Dharsana thirunal |

Feast of St. Joseph Conducted as Oottuthirunal
in the first week of May. |

October with particular ferver and devotion to

Annual retreat is conducted for elders, youth
and children |

Competitions are conducted for Catechism, Logos
Quiz and Bible quiz. We have got several winners
in this field at Diocesan level. |

Parish is publishing a magazine - ‘Parish
Bulletin’. This gives lot of scope for
developing literary and other talents of the
parishners. |

Annual pilgrimages are conducted to Malayattoor
Kurisumudy. |

Altar boys also have their yearly picnics to
places of religious and other important sites. |

Occasional visit to Velamkanny Matha is arranged
for the parishners by the parish |

the Associations |

Catechism day is celebrated annually. |

The Social Action at the parish is very active
and assist the poor financially in building
houses. The Forum has also undertaken an eight
year project of educating 20 children in the
parish area with the help of Community Aided
Sponsoring Programme (CASP) |

helping the poor financially in Education,
Marriage and Sickness. |

Secured first Rank from M.G. University in B.Sc.
(Computer and Electronics Maintenance) in 2007. |
Miss. Alin Sebu Parambeth
Secured 2nd Rank in the age group ‘A’ in
Diocesan Level Logos Quiz competition conducted
by Kerala Catholic Bible Society in 2004. She
also secured 3rd Rank in Diocesan Scholarship
examination of Bible Quiz Conducted by
Irinjalakuda Diocese in 2007 in standard IX.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Irimpan B.A. DD was
born on 25th February 1919 to Kunjuvaru
Kunjuvareed and Thandamma. Had his early
education in and around Poovathussery and his
high school studies at St. Aloysius, Elthuruthu
and college studies at St. Thomas Thrissur. He
then joined Papal Seminary at Candy in Sri
Lanka. He was ordained priest on 6th May 1952
and served in various churches of the then
undivided Thrissur Diocese. He was later
appointed as Diocesan Secretary and Vicar
General. All the duties entrusted to him were
fulfilled in most befitting manner. He then
became the first Bishop of Palghat on 8th
September 1974. His motto was ‘to love and to
serve’. He lived cent percent faithful to this
motto through out his life as a Bishop. He lived
a simple life and urged others too to follow his
model by way of his life. Under him, at the helm
of affairs , Palghat Diocese grew in all
dimensions. He breathed his last on 23rd August,
1997.
