On 1 November 1950, His Holiness Pope Pius XII canonoized Maria Goretti. In the celebrations arranged in front of St Peter’s Basilica, the newly elevated saint’s mother Jeseenta also took part. At the end of the sacred service, Jeseenta was led to the altar. The Holy Father kissed her hands and said: “How much blessed is the mother who provided a saint to the Church!”........
